The students who made the blueberry NJ's state fruit returned to celebrate the Blueberry Centennial
This week in celebration of the Whitesbog Preservation Trust’s Blueberry Centennial, the Trust honored VMES for the Blueberry Bill. The passing of the Blueberry Bill by VMES students in 2004 made the Blueberry New Jersey’s State Fruit. The “blueberry kids” who worked with Assemblyman Wolfe to pass the Blueberry Bill in 2004 are about to graduate high school. At the celebration, they passed the torch and their story onto the current 4th grade class who will take care of the school’s new blueberry bushes. Along with the students’ milestone celebration, the Whitesbog Preservation Trust, the birthplace of the NJ blueberry, Assemblyman Wolfe, Board of Education President Sharon Kight and Superintendent Hrycenko joined along with VMES to commemorate the blueberry centennial.
